Warning! If You Use the Free Version of ChatGPT at Your Company, You Are Breaching Data Protection Law

Using artificial intelligence tools within companies is becoming more and more common. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude... are names that are already part of the daily routine of many teams.

But there is a serious problem most people overlook: most of these platforms keep their servers outside the European Union and use the data you share to train their models.

What Risk Does This Pose for Your Business?

If you upload business information — customer data, contracts, revenue figures — into free AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, you are breaking the law. If we are not careful, we end up breaching the GDPR without even realizing it.

How to Use AI Legally?

Only paid versions with an individually signed DPA (Data Processing Agreement) guarantee regulatory compliance. Without that agreement, any data you upload could be used to train models, stored on servers outside the EU, or accessible to third parties.

Data Is the Oil of This Era

We have a responsibility to our customers when it comes to their information. Poor data management would cause a loss of trust that is hard to win back.

Before using any AI tool at your company, make sure to: verify where the data is stored, sign a DPA with the provider, use enterprise (not free) versions, and train your team on what information can and cannot be shared with these tools.

Artificial intelligence is an incredible tool, but using it carelessly can cost you dearly.
